Frequently Asked Questions

  • Family behavior consulting, or what we call family guidance, is individualized, BCBA-led, evidence-based behavior support for your family. We are routed in the foundations of applied behavior analysis, behavior science, and child development. Working together, we identify areas of difficulty for your family and develop a plan to make change. Using these goals, we will develop tools, strategies, and resources to share with you that will help you navigate parenthood and create lasting change for you and your family.

  • A BCBA is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. BCBAs are highly experienced individuals who have specialized training in supporting others in changing behavior.

BCBAs are most commonly known for working with the autism spectrum but the skills of a BCBA go much farther and broader. A BCBA is required to have a masters degree in applied behavior analysis, the science of behavior.

A BCBA also goes through intensive practice, 2000+ hours, to be qualified to sit for the board exam. We are held to a high professional standard including both national and state certification, biennial recertification, required continuing education, and adherence to a stringent ethical code.

  • Traditional family counseling is led by a marriage and family therapist (LMFT), clinical social worker (LCSW), or a professional councilor (LPC). These are awesome individuals who support families with things like communication breakdowns, life transitions, mental health and addiction, and grief and loss.

BCBA-Led family behavior consulting is led by an individual who specializes in human behavior and has a specific certification focused solely on how to support behavior change. This is best suited for families experiencing behavioral problems with their children or dependents or wanting to help build their child’s skills, not just talk about it.

Family counseling and family behavior consulting often work great together, so you don’t need to chose one over the other.

  • As a BCBA-led service, we provide a high-level alternative to standard sleep consulting by applying the rigorous science of Applied Behavior Analysis to your child’s rest. Unlike unregulated consultants who rely on generic "one-size-fits-all" methods, we conduct a Functional Behavior Assessment to identify the specific environmental and behavioral triggers behind sleep challenges. By utilizing data-driven strategies such as bedtime fading and reinforcement schedules, we move beyond "quick fixes" to build a sustainable foundation for healthy sleep. Our clinical expertise ensures a compassionate, ethical, and evidence-based approach that empowers parents with the tools to handle even the most complex behavioral needs.

    Why Families Choose a BCBA:

    • Clinical Precision: We analyze the "why" behind wake-ups using objective data.

    • Ethical Oversight: We are held to rigorous professional and ethical standards.

    • Specialized Expertise: We are uniquely qualified to support neurodivergent children and complex cases.

    • Sustainable Results: We focus on skill-building and long-term behavioral change.

  • We can support you with a very wide range of behaviors.

Most families seek services because they are having difficulties with managing their child’s behavior. This can range from behaviors like tantrums, yelling, and not following directions, to unsafe behaviors like hitting, running away and self injury.

Many families also seek our services because we also offer skill-building support like improving self-regulation, potty training, and social skills.

Every child and their behavior is unique. We highly recommend taking advantage of our FREE 30-minute family strategy session to discuss if family behavior guidance is right for your family.

  • The first step is to contact us. We will answer any questions you have prior to booking a free 30 minute introductory session. Once you book your family or infant sleep strategy session, we will email you a link to complete our intake form. This form helps us make the most of our time together.

During this session we will discuss your family, it’s members, why you are seeking support, how we can support you and what the detailed process would like for your family! Each family is unique, so our process is personalized to fit your needs, preferences, and bandwidth.

  • You can reach us anytime via our contact page or email. We aim to respond quickly—usually within one business day.

  • Many behavior therapies can be accessed though insurance. This is wonderful for families who qualify but insurance-funded services for family behavior guidance require that the child has an autism diagnosis. Insurance companies also have specific requirements regarding the services provided, including the ability to deny specific goals and service types.

Private-pay therapy allows us to avoid having a waitlist and provide services as quickly as possible, for the lowest price possible with less requirements.

Another benefit we offer compared to insurance based therapies is that because you pay us directly, we are extremely motivated to provide high quality, efficient, and effective services.

YOU are our customer, not the insurance company.

  • Our services may qualify for reimbursement through your FSA/HSA only if:

    • Your child has a formal diagnosis of a mental or behavioral disorder (ASD, ADHD, etc.) OR a diagnosis that affect sleep (sleep apnea, ADHD, night terrors, etc.)

    • You have or can obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity (prior to service). The doctor must explicitly state that ABA is the prescribed treatment for that specific diagnosis.

You can simply log into your FSA/HSA portal and upload your receipt for services (superbill) as well as your Letter of Medical Necessity. We can provide you with a template and information packet to share with your provider.

If you are interested in discussing this as an option for you, please share with us during your session and we will try to support you in navigating reimbursement.

  • Selling comprehensive packages instead of single sessions is a clinical decision designed to ensure your family actually sees the results you’re looking for. Challenging behaviors and sleep are complex behaviors, and a single 50-minute call rarely provides enough time to address the root cause of disruptions or navigate the inevitable "extinction bursts" that occur during change.

By committing to a package, we ensure:

    • Evidence-Based Assessment: We have the time to conduct a thorough Functional Assessment to understand exactly why your child is waking or engaging in a specific behavior, rather than just guessing.

    • Data-Driven Adjustments: Behavior change isn't linear. Packages allow me to analyze your daily sleep logs or behavior logs and pivot our strategy based on real-time data.

    • Active Coaching: Real progress happens in the middle of the night or during the behavior you want to change. My packages include ongoing support to coach you through the difficult moments, ensuring you feel confident and consistent.

    • Skill Acquisition: Our goal isn't just a "quick fix" for today; it’s teaching your child the long-term skills they need while empowering you with a toolkit for future transitions and behaviors.

  • Yes - on a case-to-case basis. The services we provide are via telehealth only, and many school consultations require direct in-person observation, which is not feasible for our model.

If you are interested in school consultation or support for your child relating to IEP or behaviors that occur only at school, please contact us to discuss options and if we can support you. If not - we will happily refer you to other providers who can.
